Why Choose

So this is a bit of a cheat, because it’s not a book necessarily, but a bit of a conversation on one my my (genuinely) favourite sub-genres of romance: why choose? The reverse harem stories.

Now. Onto what has me in a bit of a chokehold, mentally: I’m not sure if I actually want a plot and a universe of just a bit of loosely connected drama to to pad out the smut?

Let me give you an example: one of my comfort reads lately has been Jasmine Mas’ Psycho Shifters etc. two series (Aran and Sadie) — but I genuinely found myself getting frustrated with the plot. Would I like it more if more time was spent on it and these were just thicker books? Or…is it just the style of the why choose books these days, or the ones I’m picking up?

Because I feel quite similar to this about the Beasts of the Briar series by Elizabeth Helen. I honestly couldn’t really care about the plot.

But that’s also not to say I don’t appreciate a plot…but for me it either needs to be high fantasy intrigue or like a space opera and really all in to balance out all the different bodies doing different things in a lot of different scenes. The closest I could think in terms of something like this would be something akin to Kushiel’s Dart. What do we think??
